0. Effective Date and Jurisdiction
This Privacy Policy is effective as of June 2, 2026, and supersedes all previous versions. Magna Coders operates in Kenya and complies with the Kenya Data Protection Act (KDPA). By using Magna, you consent to the collection, processing, and storage of your personal data in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, including your name, username, email address, password hash, bio, profile details, location, avatar, cover image, posts, messages, projects, job listings, and settings. We also collect technical and usage data such as device information, IP address, browser type, session details, authentication events, push notification tokens, interaction data, content engagement, wallet activity, and feature usage analytics.
2. Social Sign-In and Third-Party Data
If you sign in using Google or GitHub, Magna may receive basic account information from those providers, such as your email address, display name, avatar, and provider account identifiers, depending on permissions granted. These third-party services' privacy policies govern their data handling.
Magna may also display or process content from third-party sources such as GitHub repositories, job aggregators, and news providers when those integrations are part of the platform experience.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate Magna, create and secure your account, personalize discovery, enable messaging and collaboration, deliver AI features, maintain wallet and promotional systems, process notifications, provide customer support, and communicate important service updates.
We may also use information for safety, fraud prevention, debugging, abuse detection, content moderation, analytics, product improvement, legal compliance, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Service Providers
We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or third parties for marketing purposes. We may share your data with trusted service providers who assist in operating Magna, including: Google Cloud (hosting and authentication), Firebase (notifications and analytics), GitHub (code integration), and other infrastructure, analytics, and support providers.
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide. A complete list of current subprocessors is available upon request at support@magnacoders.app.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request. We may also share information to protect the rights, privacy, safety, and property of Magna, our users, and the public, or to enforce our Terms of Service.
5. Notifications and Communications
If you enable notifications, Magna uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver device notifications. We store device notification tokens to send relevant alerts such as new messages, group activity, job updates, or account changes. You can control notification preferences through app settings.
6. Magna Coins, Rewards, and Wallet Data
Magna may store wallet identifiers, balances, transaction records, promotional claims, and ledger activity needed to operate Magna Coins and campaigns. This data is used to prevent fraud, resolve disputes, enforce campaign rules, maintain accurate wallet history, and prevent abuse. Wallet data may be retained longer than other personal data for compliance and dispute resolution.
7. Public Profile Information
Some profile information and content may be visible to other users or publicly accessible depending on the feature and your settings. Examples include usernames, bios, public profile cards, projects, jobs, and posts. Please avoid publishing sensitive personal information in public areas of the platform.
8. Data Security
Magna implements industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, regular security audits, and access controls. However, no system is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach, we will notify affected users via email and in-app notification as quickly as possible and in accordance with the Kenya Data Protection Act.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Profile and account data is retained for 12 months after account deletion for recovery purposes. Wallet and transaction records are retained for 36 months for financial and dispute resolution. When you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where required by law. You can request data deletion by contacting support@magnacoders.app.
10. Your Privacy Rights and Consent
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data; object to processing; restrict processing; and receive your data in a portable format. You may withdraw consent to data processing at any time, which will not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. To exercise these rights, contact us through in-app support or privacy@magnacoders.app. We will respond within 30 days.
Before using certain Magna features (messaging, notifications, AI), you must affirmatively consent. You can withdraw this consent at any time through account settings, which will stop new data collection for that feature.
11. Cookies and Tracking
Magna uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience, remember your preferences, and understand how you use the platform. You can control cookie preferences through browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect certain features of the app.
12. Children's Privacy
Magna is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete such information and terminate the child's account. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to Magna should contact us immediately at privacy@magnacoders.app.
13. International Data Transfers
Magna is operated from Kenya. Your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including for hosting, analytics, and service delivery by Google Cloud and other providers. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from Kenya. By using Magna, you consent to the transfer of your information internationally as necessary to provide the service.
14. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a confirmed data breach affecting your personal information, Magna will notify you via email and in-app notification without unreasonable delay and in accordance with the Kenya Data Protection Act. The notification will include details of the breach, types of data affected, measures we are taking, and steps you can take to protect yourself. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.
15. Policy Updates and Contact
Magna may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will notify you of material changes by updating the 'Last Updated' date and, if required, by sending a notification. Your continued use of Magna after updates means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
